The EHS JV Leyva Basketball teams’ fast break offense was clicking in high gear as the Pioneers ran past White Oak for a 43-32 victory in the team’s 2013 home opener.
The JV Leyva’s improve to (2-0) on the season.
The Pioneer’s opened up the game with a dominating 16 to 1 lead on the strength of crisp outlet passing and hitting the open man for numerous layups in transition.
Hitting the open man in transition for easy lay ups was EHS’ calling card in this victory.
But White Oak engineered a 14 to 6 run of their own late in the first half as White Oak scored a lay up as time expired to end the first half with EHS leading 22-15 at halftime.
Luke Murphy scored 14 of his game high 16 points in the first half and fellow backcourt mate Dever Mack scored 8 points for EHS.
Andrew Best and Conor Murphy each collected 4 points, while Wren Vieth nabbed 5 rebounds in the victory.
The EHS Bench played well sharing the ball in transition collectively amassing 11 points. Nick Graves scored a career high 5 points while James Bougiakias scoring his first 4 points in a Pioneer uniform. Logan Lindeman Cohen added 2 points on a lay up.
EHS controlled most of the second half with Noah Friedman, Bryan Montgomery, Nick Otto-Bernstien and Kiernan Klausmeyer hustling back on defense to disrupt numerous White Oak lay up attempts to seal the victory for EHS.
The JV Leyva’s look to go undefeated on the season as they face White Oak next Wednesday 1/30 as they play White Oak in round 3 in the Pioneer’s last game of the season.
