The Varsity Ultimate home opener versus the Watkinson School was a great game to start off the season. After starting the game with a couple turnovers, the Pioneers found themselves down 1-0, the only time they would trail in the game. The starting seven responded nicely with rookie Brandon Watford throwing the first goal of his ultimate career to second year veteran Joe Forest. Gonzalo Chavez connected with Alex Marklyn for our second and third goals to take a 3-1 lead only to see a couple careless EHS turnovers lead to a pair of goals for Watkinson and a tie score at three.
That would be as close as the game would be as the home team settled down, completed passes and found the open receiver while also playing a tough defense. Eagle Hill took the half 8-4 with goals thrown or received by Kendall Clark, Logan Lindemann Cohen, Gonzalo, Alex, Brandon, Ridge Newcomb, and Jesse Jacobs. The Watkinson School was unable to get the disc into the end zone in the second half and Eagle Hill won 15-4.
